Yahoo! is to team up with a navigation systems provider and supply its Yahoo! Local local search engine for in-car Global Satellite Positioning (GPS) systems, it has been announced.

Dash Navigation has said that it has secured the deal with the search engine, which will use wireless technology to provide information regarding relevant local products and businesses to car users.

The announcement is the latest in a continuing trend of media companies investing in mobile technologies, highlighting the all-encompassing nature of the internet in 2007.

The partnership is also evidence of the growing need for online services to employ specialisation techniques in order to successfully target consumers.

"Yahoo! is committed to providing innovative ways to help consumers find relevant information when, where and how they want it," commented Yahoo! Local general manager Paul Levine.

"Working with Dash takes us one step closer to that goal and provides consumers with another meaningful and relevant way to interact with our products," Mr Levine added.
