Yageo announces UWB
metal antenna for notebooks
May 30, 2007
Passive component supplier Yageo announced the release
of its first ultra wide band (UWB) metal antenna, designed to meet the application requirements for a wireless personal area
network (WPAN) used in notebooks and other PC peripherals, including portable USB and hard drives. Mass production of Yageo's
UWB antenna is slated for the third quarter of this year.
The Yageo UWB antenna comes in a 35×7mm package
and features a 3.1-4.7GHz frequency band. The UWB metal antenna is capable of delivering band speeds up to 480Mbps within
an effective transmission radius of 3 meters.
Alan Lee, Yageo's vice president of global sales and marketing,
said the new UWB metal antenna will help the company move a step further toward penetrating the wireless communication market.
With new combo antenna and antenna solutions catering to WiMax communication protocol in the pipeline, Yageo is positioned
to grow its laptop metal antenna market share by 50% within the next two years, he added.
Demand for UWB antennas
is expected to accelerate as a wireless computer interface becomes increasingly pervasive, reflecting the increase of UWB
enabled products by more notebook manufacturers. The exposure of Bluetooth, UWB and other dedicated short-range communication
technology in notebooks will increase further and total about three million units by 2011 according to ABI Research.
